When it comes to planning a trip to London, it’s often crucial to consider several key aspects – and, as part of this, we’re on hand today to help you find out more about staying safe in London when planning your trip. And, critically, we’ll answer the question once and for all: how safe is London, anyway?

How safe is London?

While there are admittedly some areas that may be a little less safe than others, it’s generally fair to say that a trip to London can be safe – so long as you follow a few key rules. Indeed, a solo trip in London as a female can be incredibly daunting; luckily, the following tips may help with staying safe in London when travelling solo.

London is mostly safe, but we would be wrong to say that it’s perfectly safe at all times. As such, we recommend the following tips for staying safe in London during your visit.

  • Always ensure you keep your phone on you and charged at all times in case you need to make an urgent call to 999.

  • Avoid going out late at night or in bad weather with limited visibility, as these could increase the chances of getting injured during your trip.

  • Never go out drinking alcohol alone. If you want to drink alcohol during your trip solo, we recommend that you only do so within your room.

  • Make sure someone from home has contact with you! Calling or texting someone close to you regularly – such as friends or parents – can allow them to look out for you remotely. In turn, if something should go wrong, they may be able to alert the authorities on your behalf.

  • Always stay in well-populated areas at all times to reduce the risk of getting attacked as a solo female travelling in London.

  • Never meet alone with someone you have just met in London.
