How to look more professional on your business photos?

What tricks to use to emphasize your best side while hiding flaws? How to pose? These are the most frequently asked questions in the context of business photo shoots. Of course, everyone is different, everyone has different needs. Nevertheless, it is best to start with the basics, as they are the starting point for successful photos

Posing itself is a difficult task, requiring great awareness of one's body image and even more practice. If you are not a professional model or do not have the so-called natural aptitude, posing often seems like a task beyond your strength. In addition, many people feel strong discomfort at the mere sight of the lens pointed in their direction. How to remedy this?

How to pose for photos?

First of all, try to relax at least a little, stop thinking about the situation and focus on your goal. Your fear to pose most often comes from the belief that you can't do it, you are uniquely unphotogenic and always look bad. Remember, however, that on the other side is a photographer who already has experience in photographing people and it is he/she who has an idea of how to photograph you well.

A few simple techniques are all you need to get started:

1. Never stand straight in front of the camera. This is one of the most common mistakes associated with posing for photos. The "straight-on" position is very unfavourable, regardless of your body type. It widens and flattens the body, making it look unattractive.

2. It is very common to use a slightly forward-leaning position when posing. If you want to look better, extend your head towards the camera and withdraw your shoulders slightly. The camera magnifies what is closest to you, thus you will reduce the proportions of your head and figure. You will look slimmer and in a completely natural way.

3. Before taking the shot, take a deep breath in. This is not at all about a pulled-in abdomen. This technique is often used by professional models. It makes your silhouette rise, your spine straighten and you immediately look better.

4. Pressing the arms against the body makes them bigger. So if you don't care about exposing the muscles you have worked out, try to tilt them slightly and keep some space. Arms glued to the body, like joined legs in a photo, will merge into one, enlarging your figure.

5. A common problem in photo shoots is the arrangement of the arms, extremely important in terms of body language. If you don't know what to do with your arms, keep them busy with something! Grab your phone, a notepad or just your favorite cup of coffee. This always helps you feel more comfortable.

6. How to get rid of the second chin? Put your jaw slightly forward and rest your tongue on your lower teeth

Your eyes are the key

Your eyes are the first thing one's gaze is directed to when looking at, for example, someone's profile photo. If they look healthy and rested, the photo from above gains in the nomen-omen eyes of the viewer. That's why you should get a decent night's sleep before the session. It's also important to keep your body properly hydrated, which also helps your eyes glow.

If you tend to close your eyes to the flash, close your eyes before the shot and then calmly open them on the photographer's command. Remember not to glare them out. It's also a good idea to take care of professional business makeup.

Clothing matters too

If you want to look good in professional business photos, you need to think about clothing and accessory. What you wear should be comfortable and convenient, not restricting your movements while posing. The outfit must fit well, neither too loose nor too tight. The color scheme, patterns, graphic elements, all should be appropriate to the goal you want to achieve.

During the corporate shoot you will most likely forget all those things you have just read about. Remember, however, that it is the photographer's responsibility to take good pictures, and he or she should help you with anything that gives you trouble. Be open-minded, ask and answer questions.  A good atmosphere and cooperation are critical to taking good business photos together.
